Lost it. November 29, 2006

Hi, I’m crazy.

Seriously. I’ve lost it. All for sure and official-like.

I’m smack in the middle of a twelve hour work day and when I have a twelve hour work day I am usually less productive than when I have a normal ten hour work day because I feel like there is so much time to kill and I certainly can’t spend all that time doing actual work (fight the system! They can force me to be here but they can’t force me to produce! Viva la quasi-revolucion!).

When I have all this time, I tend to let my mind wander and today it wandered toward my as-of-yet-imaginary engagement party and also, the names of my also-as-of-yet-imaginary children.

(Remember when I warned you about the crazy up there in the first line of this post? You just realized I wasn’t kidding, didn’t you. Like, at all. Just wait, it gets worse.)

You see, an evite to a friend’s engagement party got me thinking. Mostly about how I will not be sending an evite to my own engagement party (the invitation will most likely be pink and brown and most importantly, not virtual) and also about the list. I began to ruminate on who I would invite and, since I am type A and also a first born, I decided to make an actual, physical list.

Just to clarify: I MADE AN ACTUAL, PHYSICAL LIST FOR MY ENGAGEMENT PARTY EVEN THOUGH I, ME, CLINK OF THIS BLOG, AM NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING ENGAGED YET.

(Told you it would get worse.)

(I’m about to take it to another level.)

Satisfied with my list (150 people isn’t too much for an engagement party, right? Right?), I went on to do some actual work which was good because, hey, that’s what they pay me for so I may as well throw them a bone.

Then, of course, I got distracted. And I started thinking about baby names (naturally). And which baby names would flow with the Boy’s (awesome) last name. And which baby names would flow when used with one of our parents’ names as the middle name. And then, because I am type A and also a first born, I decided to make a list.

Then I scrunched my nose up at the list because the list is full of currently popular names and if there’s one thing I love about my own name, it is that it is unique. In classes full of Jennifer’s and Stephanie’s and even more Jennifer’s, I stood out. There was no distinguishing between Clink S. and Clink J. I was just Clink. There was only one.

Unfortunately, the names that I like (Ella, Ava, Emma, Braden, Luke, Riley, Dylan) are all experiencing a burst of popularity and maybe I should name my kid Jennifer because by that time the name will be considered quaint and old-fashioned.

Yes. I am not engaged, not married and certainly not pregnant and I am already worrying about whether there will be five other Ella’s in my daughter’s kindergarten class.

Hey, at least I can admit that I have lost it.

You work 40 hours in 3 days and then tell me whether or not you’d still be sane.

You want to really go crazy? Create your wedding registry at Crate & Barrell. You don’t know crazy until you’ve (imaginarily) registered for matching water goblets, red wine glasses, white wine glasses and champagne flutes in sets of 12. Like you will ever even have that much cabinet space.

    In other words… I can relate. ;)

Oh My God. I couldn’t even finish reading because I’m sort of freaking out. Hi, Clink. Are you me? Because I just spent Thanksgiving weekend naming my future children…complete with a list. And I happen to have that list right here. And at the top of the list (and I shit you not) are:

    Ava
    Emma
    Ella
    and Riley

I have also made the invite list for my wedding.

So, yeah. Sort of freaked out. And now I will go back and finish reading.

    Love it!
Hey, maybe I should get you to plan my wedding? You’d do it for free, right?
One of these days I’m going to e-mail you so I can find out what your name is. I think I’m gonna like it.

Strange Bird: Way to give me an idea that will only expand the crazy! Confession: I’ve already created a ‘fake’ page on The Knot. The next step is, naturally, a ‘fake’ registry.

Molly: Omigod, awesome. I don’t know whether to jump for joy that I’m not the only insane one or sign us both up for therapy.

Sass: How much am I looking forward to reading every single moment of your wedding planning? Answer: Very much. It may be causing you lots of stress but it has me totally excited/enthralled.

Ahhh! Just today, I put Riley on my list of names I like. How is this possible? I’m not even pregnant, let alone engaged!

  6. Molly Says:

OK..is anyone else just a tad weirded out/excited that we all found a group of women just like us?

Another confession? I read the RI Knot board daily. And have also compiled a list of locations, photographers, florists, etc. that I’m interested in and update based on suggestions on the board. OMG, I’m sick.

Daily: I know! I feel like I’ve lost my mind. I also feel like by jumping the gun and keeping a list of names I like, I’m totally jinxing myself and will end up alone, ring-less and child-less.

Molly: I love it. You girls make me feel like I’m not so crazy. I feel like we should all get together and get drunk on wine and compare future baby names/wedding plans.

  8. erin Says:

To be honest, I haven’t made any invitation or baby name lists, but just yesterday I was wondering if I should change my name when I’m married or take the current boy’s last name. (And we haven’t even made our relationship official yet!). Of course I was thinking about that during a dull conference call.

There is a reason we all blog and read each others’ blogs - so that we know we aren’t the only crazy ones! Clink, I feel for you working those long days. There is something about the unproductive nature of a long work day that incites the need to do silly/crazy things.

  9. Golightly Says:

been there, done that. I’ve even configured the seating chart, party logistics and timeline, type of music, food–the whole works for an engagement party, shower, wedding, and post wedding brunch. You are so not crazy

  10. sassafras Says:

OMG Clink that would be so much fun. I can totally picture it!
Three cheers for sharing the crazy with some great girls!

  11. Bev Says:

I’m beginning to wonder how many fake engagements are posted on The Knot.

I also like Ava, but worry it’s becoming too popular.
