Love & Hate. October 2, 2007

Filed under: Love & Hate — Clink @ 9:53 am

Love: Birthday deliciousness from M. I came home to find a huge, homemade ”Happy Birthday, Baby!” banner and a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from the expensive place in the neighborhood, the one I drool over whenever I pass by. He then came home from class with take-out and a package of the brownies that I can maybe possibly eat an entire container of, not that I have ever done so. Also, a gift card to Bloomingdales for an obscene amount. Seriously, ridiculous. To the point that when I opened it and saw how much he spent, I may or may not have hit him with it because is he crazy? On the upside, I can now replace four or five pairs of my beloved jeans. The man rocks.

Hate: I came in at 8:45am today and probably won’t be leaving until around midnight.

Hate: I lost my debit card.

Love: Am I sick because I’m actually excited about getting a shiny new one?

Hate: The woman from the bank asked me where I was from. When I told her that I live in New York, she said that she’s been here once and everyone was rude and she has no desire to ever come back. Um, hi? First of all I love it here and second of all I never asked you what you thought of my city and third PLEASE JUST REPLACE MY DAMN DEBIT CARD WITHOUT THE DAMN COMMENTARY.

Love: Monday night television. Seriously, does it get any better than Heroes, The Hills, How I Met Your Mother and Monday Night Football (I’m not cheating on the Giants if I root for the Patriots, right? Right? I can’t help it if Brady and Moss are a pleasure to watch.)

Hate: Seriously, WHERE DID I LOSE MY DEBIT CARD?

Love: My old co-workers are taking me out to Hooters tomorrow to celebrate my birthday.

Hate: Y’all, it is going to be a long ass day.

Your fiance is perfect. What a sweetheart. Also, I always get excited about things like shiny new cards, so if you’re sick, so am I. And I’m totally with you on the woman from the bank who needs to just shut up and do her job.

I hope you survive the day!

  2. Miriam Says:

Aw. Husband said he’d take me shopping for Christmas b/c “he doesn’t know how to shop for clothes for me” I love him for this.

    And yay Hooters! woot!

  3. Anne Says:

I really like your blog, but sometimes you just come off as so materialistic. You have mentioned how much money your fiance has many, many times. Is that necessary? Do you do this in real life as well?

  4. onebigholiday Says:

I’m so glad you had a great birthday! I like shiny new cards too, except I’m not a fan of losing them.

  5. clinkny Says:

Anne: I’m sorry I come across as materialistic. Actually, the reason I was so shocked at M’s gift is because he’s in law school and no longer working and money is tight for him (he’s paying for law school himself, without loans). I guess I should’ve thrown in that he’s been saving/making his own lunch/cutting back in other areas in order to make my gift special.

But then again, I’m not usually in the habit of explaining myself to people I don’t know.

  6. pbandrazz Says:

Sounds like a great birthday (especially since you got to watch The Hills and MNF and get wonderful gifts from your wonderful fiance)!

Sorry today is going to suck - I totally know the feeling. Is it sad that I am excited to go to the eye doctor today in order to leave the office for a bit at lunchtime?

  7. kwarterlifecrisis Says:

Nice response to Anne, Clink. As someone who does kind of know you, you don’t seem like somebody who brags about money at all. And Anne, if you don’t like what you’re reading, close the damn window.

Clinky, you definitely snagged yourself a good one, but you already knew that. Flowers? And brownies? And take-out? AND a gift card for jeans?? Be still my heart.

  8. Anne Says:

You don’t have to apologize or explain yourself to me at all. It’s just an observation, and of course I will continue to read.

  9. Legallyheidi Says:

aww that sounds like an awesome birthday :D

and it’s not cheating on the giants if it’s rooting for the Pats v. the Bengals because everyone knows Ohio and everything from there sucks :X

Btw hi i’m heidi. i read your blog on the 20something list :) Hope you don’t mind.

  10. mikesgotnothin Says:

Rooting for the Patriots and going to Hooters. Clink, you keep getting better and better.

  11. verybadcat Says:

    Hate: Anne.

Love: Sweet men and good birthdays!

Sorry you’re having such a long day. If it makes you feel better, my morning has been just awful, and while I can leave here at 5pm, it will feel like 12am by then, and *sniffle* WH left again this morning for another 8 days in the woods……

Oh, and Clink? I just wanted to say shame on you for going to school and getting a well-paying tv job, and shame on you too, for taking up with a man who has ambition and financial sense, and um, a law degree in progress, and who takes good care of you. You are intolerable! I refuse to read until you are wearing rags and eating ramen.

  12. Lisa Says:

Ugh. My connection just dies and my comments fly out the window. So hi, let’s try this again.

That was uber sweet of M., and I’m such a sucker for shiny new cards, too. Also, I’ve never been to Hooters. Post pictures if you can! :)

  13. libby Says:

ok heroes was AWESOME last night. also, i totally second KLC’s compliment re: Anne. Good stuff, taking the high road Clinky!

  14. backpedalbrakes Says:

Belated happy birthday, and happy new jeans!

  15. Peter Says:

I love that Robin is Canadian on HIMYM.

    And I hate the Patriots.

  16. Ashley Says:

random but - i suppose if anne did read your blog more often, she would KNOW that M is in law school.

anyway. yay for birthday awesomeness :) i hope you are able to replace most of your lost jeans…i feel your pain. i too tend to throw clothes in trash bags to pack, and i once threw away a whole slew of cute scarves, hats, gloves, a few really comfy sweaters….it was depressing.

  17. Butter Says:

Hate: shopping for new jeans- why do 99% of them make my butt look the size of Texas.

Love: finding that 1% of jeans that mysteriously makes my butt look small and perky and my legs look long and slim. Wahoo new jeans.

Have fun shopping- what a great present!

  18. Stephanie Says:

It is not bad, it is in fact GREAT that you rooted for the Patriots. Also, I went to the Giants game on Sunday night, so I can go both ways too. But the Patriots have my heart.

And Peter? Don’t hate the best team in the NFL. They are wonderful. :)

And new jeans?! YESSSS! When are you going shopping?

  19. Melissa Says:

I love shiny new cards, and great fiances, and wonderful birthday presents. Have fun shopping!

  20. Michelle Says:

lost your debit card? that sucks. at least you realized it before anyone else got their hands on it!

and you have such a wonderful guy that you get to spend the rest of your life with! how happy does that make you? sigh. LOVE is wonderful.

  21. Pessimistic Redhead Says:

Monday night TV is great–have you checked out Chuck? Really funny. For serious.

  22. Molly Says:

Of course your busy when I need to vent to you. Come back!!!

  23. Molly Says:

    Ugh, YOU’RE. Sorry…long morning.

  24. Sass Says:

Don’t you love how M just keeps reminding you that you found the perfect man for you? I do.

  25. mcgee Says:

good lawd woman can your fiance BE any awesomer?!

and also, the fact that i’ve found another blogger who can say they love THE HILLS and MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL in the same sentence makes me squee! with joy. you rock.

  26. caitlynintherye Says:

Jesus, the guys I usually date hardly remember my birthday. And if they do, I usually get lingerie. Does M have any brothers/cousins?

  27. Samantha Says:

Aw! M is so sweet! And I agree on Monday night TV, but Wednesday night may actually give Monday a run for its money with Gossip Girl, Bionic Woman and Dirty Sexy Money depending on how the shows develop…

  28. cdp Says:

Oh em gee. Can I borrow M? I mean, maybe just on my birthday?

Also, SCORE on the jean replacement. I still weep for your lost denim.

Finally, how much do WE LOVE ELODIE?

  29. cdp Says:

Also you must root for the Patriots unless they are playing the Giants and then you are excused. Otherwise, it’s Go Pats.

  30. daily editor Says:

Hooray for being able to replace the jeans! Whenever I think of that story, it makes me cringe…but I feel much better knowing that you can buy new ones now. Lots of new ones!!

  31. Jessica Says:

Yay! Glad you had a great day. It’s breakfast time, but I’m drooling over the desserts in your other post. Mmmmmm!
